Experience in both biological and chemical limnology. In the EC AL:PE2 and MOLAR projects he was a site operator responsible for the field work, and for chemical analyses of lakewater and rainwater at the sites in Tatra Mountains. Other research interests include ecology of Cladocera, bioaccumulation of heavy metals. National representative of the UNECE ICP Waters (Long Range Transport of Air Pollutants). Organiser of several international conferences and workshops: Ecology and taxonomy of Cladocera (1989), Limnology of mountain lakes (1991). Member of the MOLAR steering group. Long term stays abroad: Lomonosov University Moscow (Russia), Freshwater Institute Winnipeg, ELA, NWRI Burlington, McGill University Montreal (Canada), Istituto Italiano di Idrobiologia, Pallanza (Italy). Curator of the Hydrobiological field station Blatna.

Head of the Department of Hydrobiology. Has wide experience in freshwater plankton research. He has undertaken research of shallow eutrophic fish ponds, water blooms of algae, zooplankton of lakes, lake acidification, palaeolimnology. In the EC AL:PE2 and MOLAR project he co-ordinated the zooplankton work. In the EC FLAME project he studied spheroidal carbonaceous particles in sediments of reservoirs in the Czech Republic. Member of the steering group of the MOLAR project.

Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Science. International activity: MOLAR(1996-1998). Main activity: Phytoplankton of high mountain lakes.

Tasks:

CU-Prague operates the Experimental sites in the Slovakian Tatra Mountains, and with HBI-ASCR and IZ-SAS undertakes ALL field sampling within the Slovakian Tatra Mountain Classification and Validation lakes; and assists IFB-PAS with field sampling at sites in the Polish Tatras. CU-Prague is the expert laboratory for zooplankton analysis and co-ordinates the harmonisation programme for this component of the biological investigations. The MOLAR Web site currently run from CU-Prague is developed within the Department of Hydrobiology to incorporate the data and GIS links generated by EMERGE (WP 10) and is upgraded to provide the primary dissemination and data access vehicle for the project.
