He has been a visiting research fellow at University of California (UC)-Berkely (1986 and 1993-94) and UC-San Diego (1997), and has lectured and been on the evaluation committees for Ph.D. theses at many universities in Europe. He has also conducted and been advisor to environmental valuation work in Eastern Europe, Africa, South-East Asia and Latin America. He is a referee for the highest ranking journals on environmental and resource economics in Europe and the US, and has presented many papers at international conferences. He has participated in several large externally-funded projects, including four projects under DG XII's Fourth Framework Programme.

Tasks:

IOES-NLH contributes directly to the socio-economic component of EMERGE specifically on the costs and benefit assessment side. They undertake the field survey and analysis of data generated from the Norwegian study areas. They liaise closely with the Norwegian natural science partners (NIVA, UiB ) to interpret the implications of these results.
